WWE Battleground was a very solid show for the company and a great way to build towards SummerSlam. The shock of the night was the return of “The Phenom” the Undertaker and his assault on Brock Lesnar. Below are the results…

Randy Orton defeated Sheamus via pinfall (RKO)

The pay per view kicked off with a solid match between Orton and Sheamus. Sheamus was in control for most of the match working Orton over hitting multiple Irish Curses and locking in a very deep Cloverleaf. Orton made a comeback but couldn’t hit the RKO for the win. Sheamus nails a Brogue Kick but is unable to make a cover. Orton hits the RKO for the pinfall and poses in front of his home crowd to a huge pop.

The Prime Time Players defeated New Day via pinfall (Clash of the Titus)

Excellent tag team match from both teams. This may have been the best match the Prime Time Players have ever worked and as much as I hate the New Day gimmick they work fantastically together. Both teams had their chance to showcase their athletic prowess with the champions retaining their titles. The finish came after Xavier Woods got on the apron but got knocked off by Darren Young. Big E comes in for the Big Ending on Young but it’s blocked. Kofi misses Trouble In Paradise and Young hits the Gut Check, sending Kofi to the outside. Titus comes in and hits the Clash of the Titus on Big E for the win.

Bray Wyatt defeated Roman Reigns via pinfall (Sister Abigail)

They actually let Bray Wyatt get a win in a big time feud? No way!

This match was the best match on the entire pay per view. This was a brutally physical match with Wyatt showcasing his power and his wits. The crowd was hot for Wyatt last night, which shouldn’t come as a shock since he is the greatest character on television at the moment, although poorly booked. The end of the match showed us one thing. “The Family” will never die. Wyatt rolled to the floor for a breather while Reigns was down. Reigns eventually goes to the floor and Wyatt drops him with a right hand. Wyatt then tosses Reigns into the barrier.

Wyatt rolls Reigns in and grabs two steel chairs from beside the announce table. Reigns comes back to the floor and drops Wyatt with a right hand, causing him to drop the chairs. Reigns tosses the chairs into the ring and is attacked from behind by Luke Harper. Wyatt then hits Sister Abigail for the pinfall as Bray poses with his “Brother in the name of cause”.

Charlotte defeated Brie Bella and Sasha Banks via submission (Figure 8 on Brie)

The revolution is here. The evolution is here. And we should all thank Stephanie McMahon for it. This was a match. Not your typical “bathroom break Divas match”. Brie isn’t the most solid in ring worker but the ring skills of Sasha and Charlotte carried the match very well. The end came after Naomi and Tamina surround Team Bella on one side of the ring as Paige and Becky are on the other side. Sasha drops Team Bella down and then dives out onto Brie, Paige and Becky. Charlotte then dives out onto Team BAD. Charlotte and Brie come back in and Charlotte climbs up top. Sasha applies the Bank Statement on Charlotte. Brie breaks the hold and throws Sasha into the ring post and falls to the outside. Brie goes to grab Charlotte, but Charlotte applies the Figure Eight and forces Brie to tap out.

John Cena defeated Kevin Owens via submission (STF)

Yet another classic match between “Mr. Wrestling” and “Super Cena”. The crowd was red hot for this one(Majority of them against Cena). There was numerous near falls in the match(over 10) but once again John Cena can’t lose a big match. The finish came when Cena hit a Super AA on Owens, who kicks out at 2. Cena goes to pick Owens up but Owens rolls him up out of nowhere for a 2 count. Cena locks in the STF but Owens crawls to the rope. He pulls him back into the middle of the ring and Owens finally taps out.

Seth Rollins vs Brock Lesnar NO CONTEST (Undertaker interference)

Oh, Suplex City…A place no man wants to find himself. Seth Rollins found himself there all by himself last night…and despite a valiant effort against “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins wasn’t able to escape it. Lesnar repeatedly suplexed Rollins throughout the match.(Much like the Cena match at SummerSlam). And much to the crowd’s approval, he didn’t stop. After 13 mammoth suplexes, Brock finally decides to hit the F5 and take his title back but then the infamous gong hits. The lights go out and when they come back on the legendary “Dead Man” the Undertaker is in the ring. After a brief back and forth struggle the Undertaker hits Lesnar with a low blow and drops “the Beast”. Undertaker then hits a chokeslam and a Tombstone. hits a chokeslam and then a Tombstone. Fans chant Undertaker’s name as he goes to leave the ring but he stops and comes back and hits Lesnar with another Tombstone. Fans chant for one more as Undertaker drops to a knee and poses as his music plays and the lights go blue. Undertaker makes his way up the ramp and stops to raise his fist in the air to end Battleground.

Sean Feral
Sean is pretty much “the bad guy”(metaphorically not negatively)…Sean was dubbed a “natural heel” by a handful of pro wrestlers about 8 years ago and Sean has embraced that role ever since. While covering the sports entertainment industry, Sean has met and interviewed many in the business and still loves the business now as much as he did as a kid. While most kids were cheering for the XMen, Sean rooted for guys like Apocalypse and Magneto. When everyone rooted for Hulk Hogan, Sean was rooting for the Iron Sheik. When you ask him “Why do you like the villain so much?” Sean always gives this answer, “The villain always tells a better story. Without their substance, there is little need for heroes.” Other than his love for villains, Sean is an overall sports dork and watches literally everything from WWE to Olympic curling to the NFL. Sean also loves humor, especially when it’s dark, well thought out, and witty.
