WWE Money In the Bank 2015 Results

WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view ended up getting some mixed reviews from the fans last night. I for one thought the show was very solid and well done, sure there were a few hiccups in the Divas match, but it was only from a creative standpoint. For those who missed it, here are the results from the 2015 Money in the Bank event…

Ladder Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Title

Seth Rollins defeated Dean Ambrose to retain WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Remember my preview last week for the event when I said “everytime these two face off the match is always epic?” Well they did not disappoint…Rollins and Ambrose decimated each other last night. In a match that went almost a half hour long, it was hard to not ask yourself several times throughout this match the question of “How is Dean Ambrose still standing?”. Rollins did everything he could to retain his championship, from multiple barricade powerbombs, to using ladders and chairs in an attempt to destroy Ambrose’s knee. Dean put up a very valiant effort though, but Seth Rollins once again snaked away the WWE Championship from him. As the grueling war came to an end we saw both Rollins and Ambrose retrieve the title simultaneously. However, on their way to the ground as they fell off the ladder, Rollins was able to rip away the belt and retain his championship. There was no outside help and no excuses for Ambrose, Seth Rollins simply bested him…Although by the slimmest of margins.

Money In the Bank Ladder Match

Sheamus is your 2015 Money in the Bank contract winner!

The annual ladder match for a guaranteed WWE title shot kicked off the pay-per-view and it was a very solid match. Now, we have seen better Money in the Bank matches in the past, but I love the swerve the WWE did here. There were some amazing spots in the match, like Reigns powerbombing Kofi onto a ladder, then powerbombing Neville on top of Kofi. Orton hitting RKOs left and right(including one to Neville off the ladder) and then there was the best spot of all, one that literally made me “mark out” like a kid again. As the obvious favorite, Reigns scaled the ladder and he seemed to have the match won. Then the lights go out and the tv does the now infamous Bray Wyatt cut scene. The lights come back on and Bray has appeared out of nowhere. Bray pushes over the ladder with Reigns inches away from the briefcase and then lays out Reigns with Sister Abigail. This allowed Sheamus to claim the briefcase for himself and immediately swerved the fans.
Now, I like Sheamus having the Money in the Bank briefcase for these reasons, Sheamus can now be put back into the main event picture at a gradual pace, he’s scheduled to be Rocksteady in the new Ninja Turtles movie so his popularity is about to spike upwards again, and he’s Sheamus who I think is a total badass anyway so I like the win for him. But the real question here is going to be “Why Bray Wyatt? Why?”.
WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Big Show defeated Ryback by Disqualification
This match was your typical “big man” match, Ryback and Big Show went back and forth hitting power moves at a slow pace and then the Miz got involved. Miz was out on commentary and was attacked by Ryback. Miz then interferes in the match by attacking Big Show after Big Show seemingly had the match won, leading to Ryback retaining his title.

WWE Divas Title Match

Nikki Bella defeated Paige to retain Divas Championship

Oh boy…Where to start with the WWE and their Divas division? It’s not the talent at their disposal, it’s creative in my opinion but this match went from solid to cyclone of feces very quickly. First, the match was very good, both ladies were given a decent amount of time to have a very solid match and they did and that’s awesome. But the finish was lacking any sort of direction and made you basically say to yourself as a viewer “What on Earth?”. After solid back and forth action, Paige gained the upper hand. Nikki made a comeback and then both ladies ended up outside the ring. Nikki and Brie pull the old Twin Magic switch and Brie enters the match, Paige then pins Brie to win the title…So we thought. After Brie is pinned she starts unstuffing her bra and showing the ref she wasn’t Nikki. This should’ve led to an immediate disqualification and Paige should’ve been declared the winner by DQ. However, the ref somehow restarted the match and this allowed Nikki Bella to hit the Rack Attack for the win leaving everyone confused.

WWE Tag Team Title Match

Primetime Players defeated New Day to become the NEW WWE Tag Team Champions

This match was what it was, it was a decent tag match but nothing memorable or special. I was shocked that the WWE finally got the memo and put the titles on a team that actually deserved a push instead of some uppity racially charged one. Hopefully the group doesn’t stay around much longer. People like to say “it’s heat”, it isn’t “heat” for me, it is just bad television and needs scrapped.

John Cena vs Kevin Owens

John Cena defeated Kevin Owens via pinfall

THEY DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!! I’ve never in my life seen the WWE pull off two 5* matches with John Cena in his entire career. Within a month, Kevin Owens has given us two 5* matches with John Cena and this one may have been better than the first. In a fantastic match that went back and forth with both men hitting just about every move in their arsenal on one another, it was John Cena who prevailed in the end. Cena even showcased that he knows a few new moves. In a shocking moment during the match Cena went for a sunset flip that Owens countered. Cena then was able to turn that sunset flip into a Last Call, just like Melina used to use. The match ended when Cena hit the springboard stunner and then the AA for the pinfall. After the match Cena went to shake Owens’ hand in a sign of good sportsmanship…Owens however did the heel thing and dropped Cena. Owens then hits the Apron Powerbomb on Cena and leaves with both the NXT and U.S. titles.

Money in the Bank 2015 was a very good show…I’m very excited to see where the WWE goes with the swerves they added to the current storylines.

Sean Feral
Sean is pretty much “the bad guy”(metaphorically not negatively)…Sean was dubbed a “natural heel” by a handful of pro wrestlers about 8 years ago and Sean has embraced that role ever since. While covering the sports entertainment industry, Sean has met and interviewed many in the business and still loves the business now as much as he did as a kid. While most kids were cheering for the XMen, Sean rooted for guys like Apocalypse and Magneto. When everyone rooted for Hulk Hogan, Sean was rooting for the Iron Sheik. When you ask him “Why do you like the villain so much?” Sean always gives this answer, “The villain always tells a better story. Without their substance, there is little need for heroes.” Other than his love for villains, Sean is an overall sports dork and watches literally everything from WWE to Olympic curling to the NFL. Sean also loves humor, especially when it’s dark, well thought out, and witty.
